No-fuss, no-nonsense, raincoat-clad detective Grant Stockbridge feels all too often like he stands completely alone in the fight against crime in his city. That is until the day he stumbles across a mysterious, star-shaped artefact. Was it recently made, or created long, long ago? He's not sure. Its strange telepathic tendrils connect with his brain and expand his already-remarkable powers of observation and deduction beyond anything the human race has ever seen before.
But how long can he keep his discovery a secret? Will the artefact's creators want their technology returned? And will Grant's loveable, charismatic, but rather dim-witted ace pilot sidekick Lee Stevens object if Grant needs to steal his prototype rocket ship for just twenty minutes one unremarkable Thursday afternoon?
