It has been nearly five years since Winter - a magical pony princess from another dimension - vanished without a trace.
Very special friends Rosie and Megan now go to University in a dreary English city, far away from their past lives as her questionably consenting sidekicks.
Life is considerably more nuanced now than it was five years ago. "Good" and "Bad" are but abstract concepts, sparkly dresses are rarely the practical choice, and supermarket frozen pizza has lost much of the lustre that it bore in simpler times.

One evening, unbeknownst to Rosie and Megan, an inter-dimensional portal opens in the industrial district of a dreary English city.

New parties soon emerge into the story: helicopters with guns, and a mysterious second Winter, whose technology and aptitude for blowing things up appears (almost) unmatched.
